Ben Livesey finishs 15th overall in the London Marathon

April 17, 2014

RAF team runner Ben Livesey was the fastest ElliptiGO rider taking part in the London Marathon this year, finishing 15th overall in a very tough race…

35-year-old Ben, who works for the Royal Air Force (RAF), was aiming for a Commonwealth Games qualifying time (of below 2 hours 17 minutes), but a cramp in his calf from 20-miles into the race had slowed his pace and he eventually missed the qualifying mark by an agonising 44 seconds. His finishing time of 2:17:44 was still a brilliant first marathon performance and he will no doubt become faster in his subsequent marathons.

Ben first got his ElliptiGO at the beginning of this year, after experiencing an acute running injury in January which had meant he would not be able to run for at least a month. During that crucial period of his London Marathon build-up the ElliptiGO was pretty much the only running training he could still do.

When he was back running again Ben had realised just how much the ElliptiGO was helping his preparations for the London Marathon and had continued to integrate it into his training programme – regularly commuting to and from work by ElliptiGO, in addition to formal running and ElliptiGO training sessions. The outcome was this impressive performance.

Ben’s goals remain the same (to represent Great Britain in the Marathon at the highest level of international athletic competition) and he will continue to seek qualification for the major athletic championships leading up to the Rio Olympics.
