Meet Cris Swinhoe
January 18, 2014
Cris Swinhoe is a 57-year-old ElliptiGO rider based in South Yorkshire…
Cris is also a triathlete who has competed at all distances including Ironman (2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike, followed by a marathon). Last year Cris was training for Ironman Wales. All was going well and he had run a 3 hour 10 minute marathon as part of his preparation.
However, he developed a hip injury in June and could not run. Not long after this injury Cris saw an ElliptiGO in an article in a triathlon magazine. The article focused on things injured runners can do to stay fit and he decided that he had to try an ElliptiGO.
Cris told us: “I hired one from Rowhire in August and loved it straight away. It has allowed me to stay running fit without impact and I do up to 3 hour training sessions on it. My injury has improved and I am now starting to run again. However, I will continue to use the ElliptiGO, alongside my swimming, biking and running.”
In 2014 Cris plans on doing two long cycle sportives on his ElliptiGO – as well as short, standard and middle-distance triathlons. However, his main ElliptiGO event will be at the Wales Long Course Weekend in Tenby, South Wales. This is a 2.4 mile swim on the Friday evening, a 112 mile cycle on the Saturday and a marathon on the Sunday. He says: “I already have permission to do the marathon on my ElliptiGO, which will be fun and will save my running legs for the other events – thereby hopefully avoiding my hip injury recurring…”
Chris is a senior hospital doctor with a very busy schedule, but he is aware of the importance of his health & fitness goals. We hope his example inspires those of you with similarly hectic personal schedules to never lose sight of your health & fitness goals, regardless of the distractions and setbacks which will inevitably come up from time to time.
