Meet Vicki Watson
May 17, 2016
I am nowhere near being an athlete, but from a young age I have always enjoyed exercising from swimming, aerobics, badminton, hillwalking (Bagging Scottish Munros) to more recently being a member of the University of Dundee’s ISE (Institute of Sport and Exercise) where I participate in group exercise classes ranging from Yoga, HIIT, Step and weight training.
Weight gain has always been a problem for me (I like my food) so exercising has always helped me to maintain an acceptable weight.
I am now in my mid forties and menopause is upon me so losing/maintaining my weight is getting harder. I tried running, but it just didn’t suit me – due to age and weight (149 lbs 5’3″). The impact of running gave me knee problems and because of that stopped me from participating in my daily classes for a while.
Once I got better I started cycling (on my mountain bike) to and from work a few days a week. I soon started noticing the benefits of this, it’s a great way to start the day and cleared my head of work issues on the way home. Upon browsing “Facebook” one night I noticed an advert for the ElliptiGO! It got my attention straight away. I deliberated for a few months before deciding to get one; I was also unsure whether to buy or lease. I decided in the end to lease with the option of buying (from Rowhire – because if I didn’t like or benefit from using it I would have the option of handing it back).
I’ve had it now four months (took delivery in December 2015), have been using it regularly now for commuting to and from work (8 miles return) for the past three-four weeks – and I am absolutely loving it! I don’t think I’ll be handing it back! I prefer using it to my bike, I get a better workout and feel safer on it (due to the upright position when riding it).
It’s too early for me to feedback weight loss, but I am sure the lbs will be falling off the more I use it. I can’t wait to use it on longer journeys (once the weather gets better). I’ll report back again in a few months with my findings, including any noticeable changes in weight etc…watch this space!
